MyIR is a patient-facing iPhone app designed to help track immunization status. Developed by Tucson, Arizona-based Scientific Technologies Corporation, MyIR presents all the qualities of a good personal iPhone app: Intuitive, functional and simple. Despite being a paid app, it's a bargain at $3.99.
The app was developed with the idea of giving patients a way to keep track of their recent immunizations. MyIR provides tracking for a number of different immunizations that include H1N1, MMR, hepatitis, influenza and pneumonia.
The user creates a profile by entering his name, sex, and date of birth, or does the same for a family member. Once the profile has been created, the user then can create a new record. The user then selects the appropriate immunization on a selector wheel and the date the immunization was administered.
A key feature of the app is the possibility of adding profiles for multiple people. Parents can track of their children's immunization records over many years. The app organizes each dose under the category of the immunization and displays the most recently-administered shot.
The most beneficial area of the app is found in the "forecast" feature. The app provides a schedule based on the information the user inputs and "forecasts" when the next dose(s) should be administered. It's only missing a reminder/alert function - MyIR would be wise to offer push alerts to users when their immunizations are due.
While it's not a bedside care app and has very little present clinical functionality, MyIR is yet another consumer app with patient management and data integration potential.
