As a new year and new decade dawn, the health IT industry looks toward a bright future. Having learned valuable lessons (what to do, what not to do) from the transformative 10 years just past – and gained invaluable practical experience along the way – health systems now hope to build big on the momentum they've gathered.
With the IT infrastructure in place and data – lots of it – flowing freely (if still not always as easily and readily as it should) health organizations of all types are now putting it to work in new and exciting ways: to boost quality, lower costs, widen access and meet the imperatives of value-based reimbursement. Here's a look ahead at the priorities and strategies of providers, vendors, payers and patients, in 2020 and beyond.
