NorthShore University HealthSystem is one of the first health systems in the country to be recognized by the federal government for demonstrating meaningful use of its electronic medical record (EMR) system in a way that improves patient care and safety.
“NorthShore is honored to be recognized as a national leader for driving innovation that helps set the standard of care,” said Mark Neaman, President and CEO of NorthShore. “This reaffirms our commitment to continue to improve patient outcomes through the use of our advanced technologies.”
NorthShore received $6 million from the Medicare and Medicaid EMR Incentive Program to expand its use of EMR and medical informatics. The incentive was established by the federal government to recognize hospitals who successfully demonstrate "meaningful use" of technology in a way that translates to improved quality, safety and efficiency for patients.
Over the past decade, NorthShore has invested more than $100 million in developing its advanced EMR system. NorthShore will continue its focus on incorporating comprehensive EMR and data informatics systems to help standardize the best evidence-based clinical practices into effective and efficient care delivery plans for patients.
“Health information technology is the way of the future and NorthShore is clearly a leader in using it to improve the lives of the patients and residents in our community,” said Congressman Robert Dold (R-IL 10). I look forward to working closely with NorthShore to continue the incredible progress that has already been made.”
