State court overturns telehealth abortion ban
A controversial ban on administering abortion drugs via a telemedicine platform in Iowa has been overturned by the state's Supreme Court.
The unanimous decision, which was delivered June 19, will allow the state's three Planned Parenthood clinics to continue treating women through two-way video consults. Because Iowa only has three clinics, the state Supreme Court officials said the telemedicine ban would put an "undue burden" on those living in rural and remote areas who may have difficulties getting to a provider.
The ban was originally passed by the state's board of medicine in 2013.
