New HIMSS SIG eyes strengthened payers' role
Seeking to help "broaden the tent," payer-members of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society have begun forming a new special interest group to enhance their participation and to strengthen payer views within the organization.
Still in the early planning stages, officials say their immediate goals are to try to establish the SIG's place within HIMSS and work on reaching out to new members.
Although some organizing activities have already taken place - including a late January conference call - the SIG is planning its first meeting at the 2004 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
"The 2004 show is a bit of a re-introduction and kickoff for the SIG," said group chair Paul Oates. "Through the open house and the SIG meeting (on Wednesday) I hope to involve a broader group in that effort."
After the show, the group would like to establish meaningful participation and, says Oates, "establish a slate of activity that meets that objective." Another goal is to contribute more to the 2005 show and to play a role in advancing HIMSS-wide objectives.
