Two hospitals that are part of the MultiCare Health System in Washington State -- and more than 100 of MultiCare's ambulatory clinics -- have landed Stage 7 awards from HIMSS Analytics.

The awards are recognition that MultiCare has achieved the top rung of the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, with advanced use of of electronic health record systems and other health IT.

The hospitals achieving Stage 7 are MultiCare Allenmore Hospital and MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital. This puts them among the small percentage of hospitals to have achieved this level of EHR use.

MultiCare is a not-for-profit health care organization with more than 11,000 employees and a comprehensive network of services throughout Pierce, South King, Thurston and Kitsap counties.

The health system is made up of five hospitals: Allenmore Hospital, Auburn Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Mary Bridge Children's Hospital and Tacoma General Hospital: It includes numerous outpatient specialty centers, primary and urgent care clinics, as well as a variety of other services and community outreach programs.

“MultiCare Health System demonstrated a strong collaborative implementation to achieve clinical transformation with comprehensive online structured documentation for all disciplines and CPOE, which support discrete data capture for their aggressive analytics program," said John P. Hoyt, executive vice president of HIMSS Analytics, in a statement. "Another fine example of a comprehensive EHR implementation."

In 2010, MultiCare was honored by HIMSS with the Davies Award, which recognizes leaders in EHR implementation.

“Without the strong foundation set early on in our clinics, the implementation in our hospitals would not have been as successful and we would not have reaped the benefits of seamless, connected care," said Chang then, who at the time served as CIO and senior vice president of clinical support services at MultiCare.

MultiCare Health System will be recognized at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on April 12-16, 2015, in Chicago.
