HIMSS launches Women in Health IT Awards initiative

The goal is to both honor the winners and inspire all women working in health IT.

HIMSS on Monday kicked off its Most Influential Women in Health IT Awards nominations to recognize women at every stage of their health IT career.

The organization also announced the panel of nine judges for the awards, each with unique leadership and contributions to the industry.

HIMSS Executive Vice President Carla Smith, who will serve as one of the judges, announced at HIMSS16 in February that the was starting to build the community a roundtable at which leading female leaders in health IT discussed a broad range of topics, including the wage gap between women and men, opportunities to advance in their careers and mentorship.

HIMSS16 also included a sold out Women in Health IT Networking Reception.

Next for the burgeoning community are the nominations and then ultimately selecting the award winners.

“I hope that women in HIT receive validation of their true value to our industry, and I hope this recognition inspires them to turn around and support other women, said Denise Hines, one of the judges and CEO of eHealth Services Group and executive director of the Georgia Health Information Network.

Nominations can be submitted via HIMSS website until October 17, 2016. 

Award winners will be announced in the winter of 2017. A VIP Awards Dinner and A Women in Health IT reception to celebrate the winners will be held at HIMSS17.
