Speaking at a press conference held recently, Ziyad Neil bin Issa, general manager of Agfa HealthCare Solutions in the Middle East, said that the medical technology market is experiencing growth driven by several factors such as population growth, urbanization, an increase in government healthcare investments, initiatives and strategies, and the increasing prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases driving personalized medicine such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and cancer.

In Saudi Arabia the healthcare budget for 2013 has reached US$27.4 billion – an investment expected to achieve remarkable growth over the coming years and rising to US$47.7 billion by 2017. The Kingdom announced a comprehensive plan to increase the number of hospitals around the country and incorporate a significant healthcare digitization plan to help exchange patient information across the Kingdom with the aim of providing better healthcare services to patients wherever they are located and whenever they need it.

Digitization has a positive impact on virtually every star metric, including management of chronic illness, plan responsiveness and administration. Plans that pull technologies together in a seamless operational model that emphasizes a few core elements will also see a significant return on investment. Whether the focus is cost, innovation or both, a successful digitized healthcare business model will support continuous learning, broadly shared information and highly automated and routine products and services.
