Dorset County Hospital uses RTLS solution for equipment management
Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has implemented Stanley Healthcare’s Wi-Fi Real-Time Location System (RTLS) and Asset Tracking & Management solution for medical equipment management.
The solution aims to help staff to locate equipment quickly and prevent equipment from being lost or stolen. Dorset’s medical equipment, including infusion pumps, radiology scanners, wheelchairs, ultrasound and X-ray machines and mobile devices are outfitted with RFID tags. The tags communicate over the hospital’s standard wireless network to Stanley Healthcare’s MobileView software, providing a view of each item on a map of the hospital. Using this map, staff are able to easily locate items.
“It is extremely important to be able to find an item when we need it and no hospital today can afford to waste staff time searching for critical equipment – for the sake of efficiency and for the sake of the patient experience,” said Sharon Mooney, a consultant nurse in the critical care unit at Dorset County Hospital.
Dorset County Hospital, a 400-bed facility, provides acute hospital services to about 210,000 residents of Weymouth and Portland, West Dorset, North Dorset and Purbeck.
