Women in Cyprus will soon be benefiting from low-dose mammography after the Aevresis Diagnostic Center in Nicosia opted to digitize mammography operations with a solution from Swedish IT and medical-technology company Sectra.

The system was sold by Proton SA, Sectra's new distribution partner for Greece and Cyprus.

With Sectra's mammography system, Sectra MicroDose Mammography, Aevresis Diagnostic Center will be able to offer women mammography examinations with the lowest possible radiation dose.

"This will be the first low-dose mammography solution in Cyprus. Through digitization, we take advantage of increased throughput capacity and low dose, making our mammography screening operation efficient and at the same time safe for women," said Dr Artemisia Fantousi, radiologist at Aevresis Diagnostic Center.

Sectra said its complete digital solution was optimized for screening with less than 50 percent of the dose level of other manufacturers' systems - and without any compromise on image quality.
