A new report released Tuesday recognizes the nation's best hospitals for 2013 in addition to top cities in the United States for hospital care based on in-hospital mortality rates. Dayton, Ohio; Phoenix; and Milwaukee have come out on top, all seeing mortality rates less than 5 percent.

Health IT adoption at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) has yielded significant quality of care improvements, a new study has found, even as the health centers are still coming up to speed with meaningful use. The study measures the extent of electronic health record and health information exchange use and associated quality of care across several functions.

HealthSouth Corporation (NYSE: HLS) today announced it has acquired land and plans to construct a new 48,000-square foot inpatient rehabilitation hospital in southwest Phoenix, Ariz. Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2012, and the hospital should be operational by the third quarter 2013. In connection with these plans, HealthSouth purchased 6.87 acres of land located at the northwest corner of North 91st Avenue and Pinchot Avenue.
