Survey analysis: Paper still relied on for many processes

Healthcare IT News recently polled its readers to gauge how often their organizations rely on paper-based processes. The results are somewhat surprising.

Forty-five percent of respondents said they rely on paper-based processes very often, while 40 percent said they sometimes rely on paper-based processes.

Like it or not, paper is still very much entrenched in hospital workflows, even for those who have electronic systems. For many organizations, sophisticated digital technology is too expensive and burdensome to implement.

Only 14 percent said they "rarely" use paper.

The date range of the survey was March 26, 2012 to April 5, 2012.
