Recenty, CMS announced a 90-day grace period for HIPAA 5010, stating that although the compliance date remains intact, enforcement action will not be taken until March 31, 2012. Healthcare IT News asked its readers if the grace period is adequate for meeting the requirements.

Nearly half of respondents said they would be able to meet the requirements without an extension.
Twenty-six percent of respondents indicated that the extension is adequate.
It is interesting to note that despite the controversy surrounding the original compliance date, few of the respondents to our survey think the extension does not allow for enough time to achieve the requirements. Only 34 percent said that it is not enough time.
The date range of the survey was November 21, 2011 to December 2, 2011. n=68
