
Healthcare IT News recently asked its readers if they think CMS should revise its proposed changes to the HIPAA privacy rule. An overwhelming majority think so.
Seventy-three percent of respondents think CMS should revise its proposed rule changes.
Only 27 percent think the proposed changes don’t need any alteration.
Many believe that the accounting of disclosures rule included in the proposed changes fails to reconcile individuals’ privacy concerns with the requirements providers must meet to ensure compliance.

The access reports that providers must make available to patients under the rule would be unwieldy and difficult to produce.
