The 1970s: Alan J. Goldberg, FACHE, LFHIMSS
Alan Goldberg is a prolific writer in the field of management systems and a leader in defining the role of the healthcare management engineer during the early years of HIMSS. The president of the Society in 1979, Goldberg was the key editor in all three editions of Hospital Department Profiles (1982, 1986 and 1990) that sold over 20,000 copies. At his suggestion, the book's royalties were donated to the Society. His many publications, then and today, helped those involved in the management or delivery of health services or health education better understand the complexity of hospital departments and their operations. Currently, Goldberg is president of Applied Management Systems located in Burlington, Mass.
