TAMPA, FL –  Vitera Healthcare Solutions, one of the nation's largest providers of electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management software and services, today announced that Southaven Internal Medicine of Southaven, Mississippi, is the first practice in the United States to successfully submit the 2011 reporting period of Physician Quality Reporting Systems (PQRS) measures.

PQRS is a program that provides an incentive bonus to eligible providers who satisfactorily report data on quality measures for covered Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) services furnished to Medicare Part B beneficiaries. Vitera Intergy is an ONC-certified EHR solution that eligible providers may use to calculate, view and submit the report data to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for this program.

Southaven Internal Medicine used Vitera Intergy with Practice Analytics to successfully submit 2011 PQRS measure data to CMS.

"Submitting the PQRS reports provides us with a true look into our quality of care for all Medicare patients for a variety of measures rather than a sampling, offering a much clearer picture of health outcomes for our patient population," said Magdi Wassef, a physician owner of Southaven Internal Medicine. "This is the future of reporting our care quality for all patients and is a very strong indicator of the care we provide to those we serve.

"The process of submitting data is extremely easy, taking just minutes, especially with the support of tools such as Vitera Practice Analytics," said Wassef.

Vitera Practice Analytics is a user-friendly clinical and business intelligence solution that can be utilized to deliver unparalleled access to information using intuitive financial and clinical dashboards and a simplified approach to ad-hoc report writing. Practice Analytics delivers the clinical and business intelligence to drive quality care for patients and financial performance for a practice.

"It's a great honor to be the vendor partner of such an innovative practice and to have helped Southaven Internal Medicine be the first in the country to report PQRS data for the 2011 reporting period. We congratulate them, and all Vitera clients, for taking quality measures and health outcomes so seriously," said Matthew J. Hawkins, Chief Executive Officer of Vitera Healthcare Solutions. "Vitera's goals are similar to those of our clients: to improve care outcomes and help make the entire system more efficient through the use of our systems to create efficiencies and drive outcomes."

According to CMS, individual eligible professionals don't need to sign up or pre-register to participate in PQRS. However, to qualify for an incentive payment an eligible professional must meet the criteria for satisfactory reporting specified by CMS for a particular reporting period. PQRS is a voluntary reporting program, which provides an incentive payment to practices with eligible professionals who satisfactorily report data on quality measures for covered Physician Fee Schedule services furnished to Medicare Part B Fee-for-Service beneficiaries.

The incentive physicians receive is 1 percent of the total estimated "Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule" allowed charges in 2011. Beginning in 2015, physicians who choose not to report measure will be penalized by receiving reduced reimbursements for their Medicare claims.
