SAN DIEGO – DR Systems, the leading independent provider of medical imaging and information systems, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued to the company a new patent, which relates to tracking portions of medical images that are displayed according to particular display parameters, such as at a particular resolution.

For certain medical images, it is important and/or required that a user view all of a medical image at a particular resolution (e.g., full resolution) so that minute, but important, indicia in the medical image are not missed. US Patent No. 7,660,488 describes systems and methods for monitoring portions of medical images that are displayed on a display device, notating those portions that have been displayed at full resolution (or other user-defined display parameters), and providing the user with information indicating portions that have not been viewed at full resolution (or according to other user-defined display parameters). This patented technology may reduce the possibility of missing an abnormality in a medical image due to the viewer not viewing a portion of the image at full resolution or using other user-defined display parameters.

This cutting edge technology is implemented in the company’s Unity™ Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) module used by radiologists for performing diagnostic reading of digital patient images.

Technology inventors are Evan K. Fram, M.D., and Murray A. Reicher, M.D., F.A.C.R.

KLAS® recognized DR Systems and its Unity RIS-CVIS-PACS platform as the leading PACS vendor and product in its 2011 Top 20: Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Services report published in December 2011. Technology attributes of Unity PACS highlighted in the KLAS report included intuitive design of the user interface, depth of functionality, and ease of use.
