DR Systems’ eHR receives complete ambulatory meaningful use certification

February 14, 2012 | Industry News Release
Source: DR Systems, Inc.

SAN DIEGO – DR Systems, one of the most respected names in medical imaging information systems (RIS, CVIS, PACS) and the 2011 KLAS® #1 overall ranked PACS vendor, announced today that its cloud-based e|HR Meaningful Use for Medical Imaging solution has received certification as a complete ambulatory Electronic Health Record (EHR) from InfoGard, an Authorized Testing and Certification Body of the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC-ATCB).

DR Systems’ EHR is 2011/2012 compliant in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Certification is the official designation necessary for the EHR to enable providers to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Radiologists and their practices can receive federal bonus payments of up to $44,000 per radiologist by implementing the system to comply with meaningful use requirements.

An estimated 90% of radiologists are eligible for radiology incentive payments from the CMS, according to the American College of Radiology. Radiologists will have to qualify before this October to earn the full $44,000. Failure to comply with meaningful use requirements will subject radiologists and others to future financial penalties.

“An analysis of meaningful-use requirements shows that the best option for radiologists is clear: a cloud-based, vendor-neutral, imaging-centric, complete ambulatory EHR that can aggregate data from patients and upstream systems like a PACS, RIS, or HIS,” said radiologist Murray Reicher, M.D., F.A.C.R., DR Systems co-founder and chairman.

Benefits of e|HR Meaningful Use for Medical Imaging include:

* No hardware purchase or resident software. As a cloud-based system, e|HR works entirely with browser technology. It can be efficiently deployed by both individuals and large group practices.

* Vendor-neutral, offering plug-in options or standalone. e|HR's cloud-based technology equips it to “plug-and-play” with any RIS, PACS, HIS, EMR, or PHR, through an interface for seamless operation. It can also be used as a standalone system.

* Interoperability for efficient data aggregation. e|HR's cloud-based design enables radiologists who work at multiple locations to easily aggregate their data, a requirement for reporting to CMS.

* Single, radiology-centric solution. e|HR is customized for a medical imaging professional’s workflow, including decision support tailored to a radiologist's needs. Because it is a complete system, it does not require aggregating data from other certified modules.

“We created this cloud-based, ambulatory solution to meet the specific needs of radiologists and their practices,” said Dr. Reicher. “This certification is good news for the profession because radiologists can now meet the deadline with an affordable solution that improves their workflow.”

Dr. Reicher is a recognized authority on meaningful use and author of an article about meaningful use published in the September 2011 issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR).

This Complete EHR is 2011/2012 compliant and has been certified by an ONC-ATCB in accordance with the applicable certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. This certification does not represent an endorsement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.
