Vendor Notebook: RF Surgical partners with Premier healthcare alliance

RF Surgical announced a three year partnership with the Premier healthcare alliance. Under the agreement, more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals, and 78,000 additional healthcare sites in the alliance can select RF Surgical Detection Technology to prevent and detect retained surgical items from occurring in the operating room.

Perminova, which develops Web-based software for use in cardiology centers, has secured $7 million in venture capital. Officials say the company will use the funds to fuel growth as it develops Web-based cardiovascular procedure software and low-cost, cloud-computing solutions to major cardiovascular institutes and healthcare systems throughout the United States. Additionally, Perminova will use the investment for working capital, product development, sales and marketing.

IMS MAXIMS
is unveiling a new range of deployment models giving customers four ways to access its proven clinical patient administration system (PAS). The four choices are designed to ensure that healthcare providers of every size, and with very different resources, can all benefit from the best clinical applications and electronic patient record systems. They are: MAXIMS Toolkit, MAXIMS Assist, MAXIMS Bespoke and MAXIMS SaaS.

MedAssets announced that Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, a 2,545-bed, not-for-profit health system located at Lenexa, Kan., has extended its use of MedAssets Spend and Clinical Resource Management solutions after realizing swift and significant financial results. To date, SCLHS has achieved $27 million in savings through use of MedAssets group purchasing organization (GPO), supply chain management services and procurement solutions, officials say – $7.5 million in the first seven months of 2011 alone.

Beacon Partners announced that it has received “Community Connect” Certification from Epic Systems Corporation. This designation recognizes consulting firms for effectively implementing the company’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Practice Management (EPM) services for the healthcare community. “Community Connect” certification is designed to help provider organizations identify consulting firms who have the breadth of capabilities and a proven track record of EMR implementations that successfully connect various healthcare organizations.

OptumInsight announced that it has launched new capabilities for its Netwerkes electronic data interchange (EDI) service, creating a smart clearinghouse that will help hospitals and physician practices – and particularly those using Epic Practice Management Systems – increase billing accuracy and productivity, reduce administrative costs and ensure timely receipt of payments from health plans.

UpToDate, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health, has announced the addition of General Surgery to its clinical knowledge system. Subscribers to UpToDate can now access clinical information and evidence-based recommendations in 19 specialties. UpToDate is an evidence-based resource that improves patient outcomes by providing physicians with fast, accurate clinical answers to help them make the right decisions at the point of care.

SAP AG and Sybase, Inc. announced a new suite of mobile apps designed for a wide range of industries and mobile workers, from executives to knowledge and task workers. With this new wave of mission-critical apps, which range from process-driven to consumer-facing, SAP continues to expand the industry’s most comprehensive mobile portfolio, including platform, apps and security, officials say.
