Vendor Notebook - Pharmacy OneSource launches checklist system

Pharmacy OneSource, of Bellevue, Wa., a software-as-a-service provider to more than 1,300 hospitals in the United States, announced the launch of VeriForm, a new web-based hospital checklist documentation and reporting system. VeriForm is a checklist management system that helps hospitals document and report on compliance and patient safety issues throughout their facility utilizing multiple forms. It can be used to assist meeting Joint Commission standards for storage of medications in nursing units, clinics, carts, and operating rooms. Checklists can also be created to help document patient safety processes taking place before surgeries or other critical events  involving standardized protocols.

Amazing Charts, of North Kingstown, RI, a developer of Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) systems, has announced the general availability of Amazing Charts V5, a CCHIT Certified 2008 Ambulatory EHR, additionally certified for Child Health. Amazing Charts V5 includes a host of new features and functionality, including robust ePrescribing, designed to work the way physicians do, resulting in enhanced productivity and patient care. Amazing Charts V5 can be downloaded and used free for three months at amazingcharts.com

Prolucent Workforce Management, of Dallas, a leading partner for healthcare providers seeking to optimize deployment of their workforce, announced the acquisition of intellectual property assets from Symbio Solutions, Inc. The asset acquisition further strengthens Prolucent’s best-of-breed workforce management software platform and will help Prolucent deliver even greater value to the more than 1,000 acute-care hospitals and staffing agencies it currently serves.
 
NovaRad, of American Fork, Ut., has announced that the latest upgrade to its NovaPACS includes support for PET/CT Fusion. Radiologists are now able to view PET/ CT studies, within the PACS, enabling them to better deliver efficient health care with accurate results to patients while saving time and hardware costs. Now, NovaPACS users can send studies to the PACS and NovaPACS will then display those images in CT, PET and PET/CT-fused series. Each series can be individually windowed and leveled and manipulated series from within the same study. Radiologists can manipulate and work with any modality or combinations of modalities to more quickly and accurately make diagnoses for patients.

Bayshore Home Health, of Mississauga, On, Canada's largest provider of home and community health care services, has announce that it's installing WinMagic's SecureDoc full-disk encryption software on all laptops and tablets used by the company, including those utilized by clinical managers and nurses. Bayshore's clinical managers' laptops will have WinMagic's SecureDoc full-disk encryption installed when employees receive them. They will also be issued a cellular AirCard which, when combined with mobile VPN software, will provide simple, anytime, anywhere secure VPN tunnel access to central information resources.

A-Life Medical, the Sandiego-based provider of computer-assisted coding (CAC) products and services to the healthcare industry, announced the renewal of an extensive contract with Associated Billing Services, Inc. Associated Billing Services provides medical billing and accounts receivable management services throughout Arizona. The company has worked with A-Life Medical for four years. Under the renewed agreement, A-Life Medical will provide CAC services that directly address radiology procedures.

Jefferson Regional Medical Center, of Pittsburgh, and Blount Memorial Hospital, of Knoxville, Tenn., are the first hospitals in the country to use PerfectServe’s enhanced clinician-to-clinician communications system, which eliminates errors and enables nurses and doctors to better coordinate care. The PerfectServe system was developed based on years of research and real world experience with nearly 14,000 physicians in 24 hospitals and 2,500 practices nationwide, and addresses the communication breakdowns that often occur when clinicians need to connect with on-call physicians.

Diversinet, the Toronto-based developer of secure mobile applications, is increasing its focus on secure mobile healthcare, the company announced at CTIA Wireless 2010. Elements of the company’s new healthcare strategy include MobiSecure SMS, a new product that enables healthcare providers to exchange sensitive information instantly with patients via any mobile device in a secure and trusted environment; and MobiSecure Wallet and Vault R4.0, which, with advanced personalization tools, such as over-the-air (OTA) branding and new mobile software development kits (SDKs), enables healthcare providers to quickly launch branded versions for their patients/members, allowing access to critical and sensitive health information.

PayFlex Systems USA, of Omaha, an administrator for employee benefit programs, announced the launch of its broad mobile application platform, PayFlex Mobile, introducing the first of several mobile-specific offerings planned by PayFlex. This initial application will allow consumers to access and act on all elements of their personalized healthcare financial benefits including Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), and Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) from anywhere and at any time.

MedQuist, the Mount Laurel, NJ-based provider of technology-enabled clinical documentation services, has announced an agreement with healthcare informatics software developer Artificial Medical Intelligence Inc. (AMI) to provide computer-assisted coding (CAC) within MedQuist’s CodeRunner coding workflow platform. AMI’s patented Powered by EMscribeTM technology includes comprehensive Inpatient and Outpatient natural language processing (NLP) to provide ICD-9-CM, CPT and E&M coding conventions today, and offers the platform framework for ICD-10 in the future. The technology is able to apply NLP to data abstraction, making it a usable and flexible solution for hospitals and clinics. AMI’s technology innovation automatically processes certain record types without requiring coder review for very high accuracy.
