Vendor Notebook - JAOtech opens U.S. headquarters

JAOtech Ltd., the London-based manufacturer of embedded Smart Terminals, has announced the opening of its U.S. headquarters in Trumbull, Conn. The facility serves as JAOtech’s sales, marketing and technical support center for the United States and Canada. JAOtech Corporation, the company’s wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, has an installed base of more than 13,000 terminals in North America.  

TAGSYS, the French provider of item-level RFID infrastructure, announced that it has secured €8 million ($12 million USD) in new investment, led by current investors Elliot Advisors, Endeavor Vision, Add Partners, DFJ Esprit and Saffron Hill. TAGSYS will use the funds to expand its distribution channels, help partners secure new markets, and continue to develop UHF and HF solutions optimized for item-level applications for a variety of markets including Library, Textile Services, Brand & Fashion and Healthcare.

PEPID, the Chicago developer of clinical decision-support information and technology for healthcare professionals, has announced a partnership with McGraw-Hill Professional, the leading provider of reference and trade publishing for the medical profession. This partnership will put 27 of the publisher’s medical reference guides into electronic format for mobile access. PEPID will roll out the products over the next nine months, with the final product expected at the end of October.

AssistMed, Inc., of Beverly Hills, has announced its signing a strategic partnership agreement with Definitive Homecare Solutions, Ltd. to develop and offer an interface between AssistMed's Patient Adherence Solutions and Definitive Homecare Solutions' CPR+ patient and business management software designed for specialty pharmacy customer applications. Terms were not disclosed.

NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, Inc., of Atlanta, a leading provider of healthcare information systems, has announced an agreement with Wayne State University Physician Group (WSUPG), one of the largest multi-specialty physician practice groups in southeast Michigan, to deploy NextGenSM Practice Solutions, a line of business devoted to providing healthcare organizations with cost-effective revenue cycle management (RCM) services. Under the agreement, WSUPG physicians, residents and staff will have access to services from NextGen Practice Solutions, which are designed to help increase collections, reduce A/R days, and improve efficiency in billing, scheduling, reporting, and other critical practice functions.

Rauland-Borg, the Mount Prospect, Ill.-based maker of healthcare nurse call systems, and Visonic Technologies, of Bloomfield, Conn., a global provider of scalable Active RFID/RTLS based safety, security and management solutions for the healthcare industry, announced the integration of Elpas RTLS technology with the Responder 5 Nurse Call System. This joint collaboration between Visonic Technologies and Rauland-Borg provides Responder 5 with real-time staff presence functionality throughout the hospital to room and sub-room level accuracy, automatic visual indication that a patient's needs are being responded to and automatic nurse call cancellation.

SCIOinspire, Corp., a Farmington, Conn.-based provider of analytics-driven business process solutions to the health plans and hospitals, and Renalogic, LLC., an innovative care management firm specializing in chronic kidney disease (CKD) programs, today announced a strategic alliance through which Renalogic will implement the SCIOinspire PRO-Series software to support the development of effective care programs for CKD populations.
 
Diversified Information Technologies, of Scranton, Penn., a provider of document and information lifecycle solutions, has announced that its facility located in Jacksonville, Fla. complies with stringent 36 CFR part 1228, subpart K Federal regulations. These regulations outline specific requirements for all document centers storing federal records including NARA-operated Federal Records Centers, agency-operated storage centers, and commercial records centers. The Jacksonville facility is the fourth Diversified records management center that is in compliance with 36 CFR part 1228, subpart K.

Royal Philips Electronics and Definiens, a Germany-based company specializing in image analysis solutions, have announced that they've signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and market clinical decision support solutions for digital pathology. The intended initial project between Philips and Definiens will focus on immunohistology-based breast cancer diagnostics, which includes the detection of biomarkers HER2, Estrogen Receptor (ER), Progesterone Receptor (PR), Ki67 and p53. Philips and Definiens also plan to investigate solutions for other cancers such as prostate and colon cancer.

Carestream Health, Inc., of Rochester, N.Y., has launched its new CARESTREAM Image Suite, a CR/mini-PACS solution designed to meet the imaging needs and budgets of clinics and physicians’ offices. Image Suite combines selected models of CR systems with fully featured PACS software that can run on a variety of PC-based workstations. Use of standard PCs helps lower costs and delivers greater flexibility for users. Image Suite is available for order worldwide and is expected to start shipping in June.

PayFlex Systems USA, Inc., the Omaha-based administrator for employee benefit programs, announced a new and differentiated model for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Expanding on existing technology, the new PayFlex HSA platform offers comprehensive support for employers, financial institutions and health insurance plans providing HSAs-tax-advantaged accounts available to consumers with high-deductible health plans. PayFlex's new custodian-agnostic product enhances flexibility and control for employers and insurers, while extending its HSA offering to any financial institution.
