March 30, 2009 | Healthcare IT News Staff
From the April 2009 print issue

McKesson’s Interqual suite helps hospitals with RAC

McKesson has announced the release of InterQual Audit Solutions, a suite of tools designed to help hospitals prepare for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid’s Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program and other audits, as well as those seeking to improve ongoing process performance. The InterQual Historical Criteria solution is part of McKesson’s CareEnhance Review Manager software suite, allowing clients to conduct use reviews based on past criteria, then store and report on them when needed for audits or reference.

Baxa corp. acquires ForHealth technologies

The Baxa Corporation, an Englewood, Colo.-based developer of technology for the safe handling, packaging and administration of fluid medications, announced that it has acquired ForHealth Technologies, Inc., a Daytona Beach, Fla.-based developer of medication administration software and services. The deal is designed to increase Baxa’s footprint in the hospital pharmacy and IV room by integrating ForHealth’s IntelliFill i.v. and IntelliFlowRx tools to the company’s pharmacy operations management suite.

Cardinal Health spinoff to be named CareFusion

Cardinal Health, of Dublin, Ohio, has announced that the spinoff company to be formed this year from its Clinical and Medical Products businesses will be named CareFusion, a trade name the company has held since acquiring the maker of hand-held barcode technology in 2006. Company officials say CareFusion, which will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CFN, “will be the largest medical technology company with a singular focus on patient safety.”

New Picis products address IV, injection services

Picis, Inc. of Wakefield, Mass., has launched two new solutions designed to help hospitals improve workflow and charging for intravenous (IV) infusion and injection services in the emergency department (ED). The Lynx E/point product now features an Infusion and Injection module that allows clinicians to use clinically relevant data to calculate the appropriate CPT codes and charges. Insight ED Charge Rules, an optional component of ED PulseCheck, prompts clinicians to record more accurate and complete documentation to facilitate the proper coding and charging of infusion and injection services.
