'Suite' deals: Sentillion promotes its SSO to new partners

July 31, 2009 | John Andrews, Contributing writer
From the August 2009 print issue

ANDOVER, MA – Two recent contracts effectively illustrate Sentillion’s strategy to serve both large and small healthcare systems, its president contends.

First, the identity and access management software manufacturer signed a licensing agreement to supply its single sign-on and context management technology as part of Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft’s Amalga Unified Intelligence System, used mainly in major healthcare enterprises.

The company then announced a distribution plan for Glenwood, Minn.-based Healthland, which specializes in systems for small community and critical access hospitals, to resell its expreSSO next-generation product.

“The tie-in is they demonstrate the breadth and versatility of our suite approach,” Sentillion’s Paul Roscoe said. “We focus exclusively on healthcare and have developed a suite of products to help providers face their challenges – accessing a myriad of information systems in a productive and secure way.”

For large Amalaga users, such as Johns Hopkins, Roscoe said the Sentillion feature will offer “an experience that is simple and integrates with the workflow.” Amalga users can sign in once and all other subsequent applications will interact with it, he said.

From a technology perspective, Sentillion and Microsoft have had a longstanding relationship. However, the new license agreement elevates the partnership to a more strategic level, Roscoe said. As Microsoft seeks to expand its scope and presence in the healthcare market, he said, Sentillion can help boost Amalga’s use and visibility.

On the other end of the spectrum, expreSSO integrates disparate applications at small hospitals so that users can get true single sign-on functionality, Roscoe said.

Founded in 1980, Healthland (formerly Dairyland Healthcare Solutions) has focused exclusively on helping small community hospitals create one patient chart across the local healthcare continuum, including hospitals, clinics and home healthcare and long-term care facilities.

“Small hospitals have different challenges, but what it showcases for us is that Sentillion is not just for large health systems,” Roscoe said. “We can be deployed by organizations that don’t have an IT army. Healthland will deliver this for us.”
