LOS ANGELES – St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles has contracted with Columbus, Ohio-based Language Access Network (LAN) to provide the hospital with video language interpretation services.
Officials say St. Vincent needed a solution able to meet its high demand for language interpretation services. Those services will be delivered via LAN’s dedicated HIPAA-compliant high-speed broadband network and through its proprietary remote video interpretation equipment, the Martti Express.
Martti (which stands for My Accessible Real Time Trusted Interpreter) offers immediate access with one-button simplicity and full mobility throughout the hospital.

Providing compassionate healthcare and serving the sick poor has been the mission of St. Vincent Medical Center for more than 155 years. Located in downtown L.A., the hospital is a world-renowned, 366-bed facility, offering comprehensive medical services.
"Integrating video into our interpreting services program was the next logical step," said Jody Spector, director of patient care and guest services at St. Vincent. “However, we needed a company that cares as much about the quality of interpreting services as we do. It wasn’t just about finding a vendor, but a true partner who has the same passion about clear understanding that we have at St. Vincent.”
Language Access Network provides video remote interpretation (VRI) services to hospitals and other medical venues nationwide. Physician-owned, and solely focused on healthcare, executives say the company has unique insight into how to drive better outcomes, improve patient satisfaction and be a true partner to client hospitals.

Targeted towards limited English proficient and deaf and hard-of-hearing patient populations, LAN serves more than140 medical facilities nationwide with access to interpreters who are available via centralized video language centers. The company provides clients with real-time video and audio interpretation capabilities in more than 170 languages.
"St. Vincent Medical Center wanted more than equipment and a service," said Andrew Panos, COO of Language Access Network. "What LAN offers is a full toolkit: a problem-solving suite of products aimed at defining demand, gathering and reporting data, to allow the hospital an in-depth understanding of their language needs today and tomorrow. It’s not just about finding a solution, but evolving the solution to meet and exceed the needs of our clients.”
