ABERDEEN, UK – Clinical Solutions, a decision support and clinical knowledge solutions healthcare organization, has announced the implementation of Aberdeen, Scotland's first pharmacy walk-in clinic for minor injuries. The apparatus supports a simple and safe patient assessment process, and will be a nurse-led weekend walk-in service.
According to Dr. Roelf Dijkhuizen, Medical Director for NHS Grampian, community pharmacies have been working together to examine different methods to provide the public with better advice and treatment for some of the most common complaints.
"The types of injuries which may be treated at the Walk-in Clinic include injuries which are sustained as a result of slips, trips or falls such as soft tissue injuries to limbs and head injuries with no loss of consciousness," Dijkhuizen explains.
Tim Stacey, Director of Health Services and Solutions, Boots UK, believes the new clinic will be an upstanding addition to their existing healthcare offer. "We are delighted to work with NHS Grampian to provide patients in Aberdeen with access to a nurse-led weekend walk-in centre. Customers can access BMI machines, e-MAS, seasonal flu vaccination service, repeat prescription service and weight loss programs."
It will operate as part of a Scottish Government-funded pilot involving pharmacies in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Dundee, Edinburgh and Airdrie. Extended hours and a wide-range of services are available with the intent of increasing patient access and reducing waiting times.
"The IntefleCS technology will support the clinical assessment and treatment process," says Jean Challiner, Chief Medical Officer at Clinical Solutions. "At the same time, [IntefleCS] creates an auditable detailed electronic clinical record. Patient safety is paramount in any service, and our technology supports high quality evidence-based care customized to this healthcare setting."
