SARASOTA, FL – Rauland-Borg Corporation, which specializes in developing nurse call technology, has partnered with Voalté, a developer of point-of-care communications software for smartphone platforms. Their collaboration will enable Rauland-Borg’s Responder 5 Nurse Call system to connect directly to caregivers' Voalté-enabled iPhones.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Voalté and offer the first integration from our Nurse Call system to the Apple iPhone,” said Maureen Pajerski, vice president of sales and marketing at Rauland-Borg. “This new technology will help advance communications within hospitals and help expand business opportunities for both of our corporations within the healthcare industry.”

Voalté offers a unified communications solution that enables nurses and clinicians to send and receive presence-based text messages, make high definition voice calls across the hospital VoIP system, and receive critical care alarms on the iPhone. Since the integration will allow patients to communicate to nurses directly, the need for Nurse Call middleware translation, dial-back control and PBX compatibility is eliminated.

“Currently when a patient hits the bedside nurse call button or pulls the bathroom cord, the system determines the priority and displays it on a screen – Normal, Bath or Emergency Call – and then the appropriate nurse is located and notified,” said Trey Lauderdale, vice president of innovation at Voalté.

Rauland-Borg’s Responder 5 Nurse Call integrated with Voalté’s voice and data servers will allow a patient who presses the nurse call button to be directly connected with the caregiver, in real time, via a phone call to the nurse’s iPhone. Responder 5’s proven reliability ensures patients that staff members are just a button-push away, with the ability to answer calls on the go with their SIP compatible iPhone wireless device.

This enhances mobility for caregivers and allows them to answer calls from anywhere on the hospital unit. The patient’s call will be routed immediately to the direct caregiver every time.

"Integrating our solutions presents an unprecedented opportunity to deliver quality point-of-care communications and ultimately, faster response time for patients," said Lauderdale.
