NEW YORK – A poll conducted by Black Book Rankings, a division of the market research firm Brown-Wilson Group, reveals the top three inpatient EHR vendors based on customer experience for small hospitals, community hospitals and academic and major medical centers.

The top inpatient EHR list is based on the survey results Black Book released in December, which named the top EHR vendors for 2011. The survey, which was conducted over four-months polled over 30,000 healthcare records professionals, physician practice administrators, and hospital leaders in the information technology arenas. The survey employs eighteen key performance indicators targeted at ensuring high product and service performance through comparing vendors from the customer experience.

The top inpatient EHR vendors listed below scored the highest in customer experience in the areas of certification-required EHR functionalities, administrative functionalities, clinical workflow functionalities and documentation functionalities.

The top three customer-experience ranked EHR vendors for hospitals under 100 beds:

  • CPSI
  • HMS
  • Healthland Clinicals

Top three ranked EHR vendors for community hospitals 101-249 beds:

  • Dell
  • Cerner
  • Quadramed

Top three ranked EHR vendors for academic teaching hospitals and major medical centers 250+ beds:

  • Dell
  • Epic
  • Siemens

"Late EHR adopters are seeking which vendors are actively supporting their clients through implementations as they make final software selections", said Doug Brown, managing partner of the surveyors, Black Book Rankings. "Almost eighty percent of the nation's hospitals and half of office-based physicians plan to grab over $27 billion in federal incentives for adoption and meaningful use of EHR technology ... so the past buyer experience is driving current buyer decisions more than ever."

In an add-on survey, effectiveness in three areas of meaningful use: CPOE, nursing automation and medical administration, were also identified by hospital IT leaders currently implementing EHR.

Top MU implementation standouts were:

  • Dr First/Rcopia
  • Meditech
  • Dell
  • NextGen
  • CPSI
  • Epic
  • McKesson
  • Siemens
  • Quadramed
  • Cerner

chupacabra says: Top inpatient EHRs ranked
February 24, 2011 | 2:14PM GMT

The title of this article should be 'Largest EHR's inpatient solutions ranked'. Talk to almost any specialist or surgeon and they'll tell you why they're still using paper: they're OK doing CPOE in these systems, but not admission notes, daily notes, or procedures/operations. The big guys haven't talked this one yet. Look for integration with smaller niche players to provide inpatient documentation that will drive physician adoption of EHRs.
