GLASGOW, Scotland – Stobill hospital, a new hospital opened by the NHS Glasgow and Clyde Health Board, is being touted as one of the "most modern and well-equipped" hospitals in Scotland.
The Stobhill hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Scotland and is expected to treat around 400,000 patients each year.
"The new Stobhill Hospital will be one of the most modern and well equipped hospitals in the country and will be a model for future hospital planning. It signals a new era in patient care and comfort with well equipped treatment areas and consulting rooms, state-of-the art theatres and modern, airy waiting areas," said Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon.
The £100 million hospital is also supporting a virtually paperless environment thanks to the implementation of an electronic healthcare record from Orion Health Inc., a global provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector. Orion Health's Concerto Portal technology provides clinicians with a complete picture of patients' healthcare records across multiple healthcare settings.
Scott Hendry, Glasgow and Clyde's portal program manager said the critical starting point for enabling an EHR was providing the ability to exchange medical data between a multitude of locations and providers.
"At the time of selection, Concerto was the only solution that could provide a single unified view of the information retrieved from the multiplicity of systems that we have in Glasgow and Clyde. That made our decision easy. We currently send 2000 medical documents and 1000 referral letters daily," said Hendry.
The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board is the largest health board in the United Kingdom. Officials say that since its inception in 2006 it has been working to make it easier for its tens of thousands of providers, across dozens of facilities, to access patient medical records electronically.
Paul Viskovich, Orion Health's president of North American and EMEA Operations said the Glasgow and Clyde regional project is Scotland's largest and most ambitious healthcare modernization program. "Their dedication to providing better healthcare services for this large patient population is groundbreaking,” he said.
