PACS performance tied to workflow

November 28, 2007 | Patty Enrado, Special Projects Editor

When it comes to PACS use, it’s all about optimizing workflow for the providers, said Ben Brown, research director of medical imaging for KLAS Enterprises. Innovative organizations are trying to take clinical imaging to the next level by working toward an enterprise clinical imaging management and distribution system. “This is not a true deliverable at this point,” he cautioned. However, the ability for clinicians to access other tools via a single PACS workstation or view or via the Web is an attractive proposition. While providers continue to expect quality service and support, upgrades and reporting capabilities, the extension of PACs functionality to multiple departments such as cardiology, oncology and pathology is definitely on their wish list. The ranked list is from KLAS’ Top 20 Mid-Year Report.
