PERTH, WEST AUSTRALIA – Ozcare, a non-profit health and community services provider in Queensland, has launched a new system designed to improve care by sending alerts and other notifications to nurses carrying mobile devices.

The Amcom Fusion mobile event notification software was implemented at Ozcare to improve response times to patient requests and safety concerns. Ozcare officials said the middleware sends alerts from the nurse call system and fire panel directly to a staff member carrying a wireless phone.

"We now have a fantastic system we can rely on for critical communications,” said Daniel Cruse, manager of information technology at Ozcare. "The Amcom solution has fulfilled all our requirements: it’s stable, flexible, and easy to maintain. We have also received excellent support from the local team. We are now better able to provide the level of safety and responsiveness we want for our residents and patients."

Ozcare currently has 10 residential aged care facilities with more than 1,200 residents. Administration officials at Ozcare said five Fusion systems have been installed, and plans to implement five more into the remaining aged care facilities will finalize the project.

Ozcare Officials said that for the first time, clinical staff can take nurse call requests and send full text messages to wireless phones within seconds. By enabling staff to track who has sent, received, and responded to notifications, Ozcare officials said the facility has experienced better response times by its staff.
