SEATTLE – Numera, a Seattle-based developer of health coaching solutions, is taking its telehealth talents across the pond.

The company will be lending its NumeraNET solution to Appello, a collaborative telehealth project based in Camberley, Surrey, UK, that aims to improve care management and outcomes for those living at home with long-term health conditions.

"Over 15.4 million people in England are affected by chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and COPD. By providing these intensive users of healthcare with self-management and health coaching resources, we will help to significantly improve their quality of life, as well as reduce the cost for providing ongoing care," said Carl Atkey, head of CarelineUK, a telecare monitoring service that’s one of the affiliates in the Appello program. “Numera supports our client-oriented service with a proven technology that is simple to use and offers those responsible for care, invaluable access to critical information for personalized support.”

"We’re very excited to be working with Appello on a service that will truly make a difference in the accessibility, quality and cost of care across the UK," said Tim Smokoff, CEO of Numera. "This project is another example of the value found in our 'open systems' approach to technology, enabling dozens of health monitoring devices to stream vital information to virtually any care management application or system. We’ve seen how patients become more engaged and compliant with treatment plans when working in collaboration with well-informed, proactive care teams.”

Along with Numera and CarelineUK, other affiliates in the Appello alliance are CentriHealth, a provider of assistive care records, and Volt Delta, which will provide the control center infrastructure.

Numera officials say the company’s care management platform allows the collection, analysis and transmission of clinical data from a broad array of consumer health devices through gateways such as PCs, mobile devices and multi-purpose home hubs. That data can then be analyzed by clinicians and entered into the patient’s electronic medical record, electronic health record or personal health record.

Formerly known as iMetrikus, the company rebranded itself in May and announced the launch of NumeraNET gateway applications for smartphones. In June, the company formed a partnership with HealthTrio, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., to integrate NumeraENGAGE analytic software into the HealthTrio Personal Health Record, which has more than 12 million subscribers.

Numera’s products and services are used by more than 40 healthcare providers and networks, corporate wellness programs and other care-based programs. The company has partnerships with several IDNs, managed care companies, pharmacy distribution providers and EMR companies, including Epic, WebMD, Healthrageous and AmerisourceBergen.
