New Hampshire hospital pulls its data together

February 23, 2010 | Bernie Monegain, Editor
From the March 2010 print issue

CONCORD, NH – Concord Hospital, a regional medical center and one of the busiest acute care hospitals in New Hampshire, will roll out a new platform to streamline data integration.

Hospital executives have selected Santa Monica, Calif.-based Orion Health's Rhapsody Integration Engine to supplement and eventually replace the hospital's Sun Microsystems eGate. Rhapsody will serve as the hospital's platform to migrate, manage and streamline message exchange for its health information system.

"We were looking for an innovative technology solution that would not only work with our short-term goal of implementing a new electronic medical record, but also meet our long-term goal of serving as an application development tool to integrate various databases into our overall HIS," said Chris Baker, the hospital's director of application development.

"Because we will be moving from eGate, the migration path was especially important and the migration toolkit that converts eGate code into Rhapsody was another important factor in our decision," he added.

Paul Viskovich, president of Orion Health's North America and EMEA businesses, said Concord Hospital is an example of a proactive organization that's replacing a possible legacy system with a new system that would work well into the future.

"By using standardized technology they not only improve efficiencies in how information is shared, but leverage a proven solution to extend and expand their investment and functionality their HIS can provide," he said.
