THE WOODLANDS, TX – Nearly a year after its acquisition of US Oncology, the practice management company for community-based cancer doctors, McKesson has built on the deal to create a new division, McKesson Specialty Health, that seeks to help the IT advancement of community care delivery.

“Through innovative technology, clinical support and business solutions, McKesson Specialty Health offers the broadest and deepest suite of services available today, all focused on improving the health of community practices and the patients they serve,” said Bruce Broussard, CEO, McKesson Specialty Health. “We are thousands of committed experts who believe that the long-term vibrancy of community practices will be achieved through the leadership of physicians committed to clinical excellence and innovation. Our mission is to strengthen the community patient care delivery system through our deep clinical, operational and technological expertise.”

Less than a year ago, McKesson acquired US Oncology with an eye toward its customer offerings. Through integrated IT offerings, including iKnowMed, a Web-based oncology EHR, and the Lynx Mobile drug inventory management system, clinical support expertise, one of the nation’s largest cancer research networks and deep understanding of community care, officials says McKesson Specialty Health will help its customers advance the science, quality and efficiency of patient care.

McKesson Specialty Health provides solutions across multiple specialties. From oncology and rheumatology to gastroenterology, nephrology and urology, the company is committed to strengthening community practices.

McKesson Specialty Health Solutions for Oncology offers community oncology practices the choice, flexibility and ability to engage with and benefit from a wide variety of innovative clinical, technology and business capabilities. By engaging with McKesson Specialty Health’s Solutions for Oncology through either the expanded Onmark Select Program or The US Oncology Network, providers are empowered to advance the science and delivery of patient care in the way that best suits the needs of each individual practice, officials say.

“We have taken the best of McKesson Specialty Care Solutions and US Oncology to create McKesson Specialty Health, an organization that can truly help the community-based care system achieve better health,” said Mark Walchirk, president of McKesson Specialty Health. “Our customers now have even more ways to engage with us as suits their needs, better enabling them to secure their own future at the forefront of excellent, high-quality and efficient patient care.”
