LE MANS, France – Centre Hospitalier du Mans in France has selected Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS hospital and clinical information system to support the implementation of a full electronic patient record solution.

The Centre Hospitalier du Mans is one of France's largest hospital centers, employing more than 4000 staff members and 1657 beds. Annually, the hospital manages around 220,000 consultations and admits 58,000 patients of the 69,000 who pass through the emergency department.

Agfa says ORBIS enhances the quality of patient treatment by providing fast availability of patient histories, including diagnostic images, administrative information and clinical data.

Patient data and histories at Centre Hospitalier du Mans will be available to the medical staff throughout the facility, providing for quicker, more informed diagnoses and treatment.

By enabling information and data to be shared between different clinical departments during the treatment process, ORBIS is intended to anchor the hospital's implementation of a fully-fledged EPR solution.

"This project is of great strategic importance for us and will reinforce the overall recognition of our hospital as a leading care provider," said Philippe Roussel, director of the Centre Hospitalier du Mans.

Vincent Trely, director of information systems at the Centre Hospitalier du Mans, said, "The introduction of a new CIS will offer our health professionals a common platform and set of tools which will support the specific needs of each clinical specialty in the larger hospital environment, while integrating their efforts across specialties and departments."
