WILKES-BARRE, PA –Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania is ready to provide 100,000 of its members access to their personal health records via their cell phones. The service is slated to begin next month.
The insurer eventually plans to expand the service to 600,000 members. The information includes recent diagnoses, prescribed medications, allergies and immunization history. All of it will be extracted from the BCNEPA’s claims data and also from information members provide.
Members will be able to access their personal health information from their cell phones, PDAs and PCs. They will also be able to use the system to confirm eligibility and coverage for healthcare services at the time they’re treated.
“Secure portability of medical records at the time of care, the convenience and peace of mind in being able to receive fast and secure coverage confirmation – all accessed securely through a mobile device - make the MobiSecure Health solution a trendsetting product that will enable our members to take control of their health care information,” said Drew Palin, MD, chief development officer of BCNEPA.
Ontario-based Diversinet Corp. will provide secure access to the data with its MobiSecure Wallet and Vault application. Officials say the system features multiple layers of protection. Customers will have to create unique user names and passwords.
