To encourage widespread adoption of the EMR among its affiliated physician group - Alliance Health - and to alleviate costs associated with implementation and support, Provena will host Misys EMR and Misys Tiger practice management software through Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.
The two Misys healthcare products are offered by Misys Healthcare Systems of Tampa, Fla.
As a complement to the EMR for physician practices, Provena Health has also purchased Misys Homecare, which will be used among its network of home health nurses.
"Automating and deploying clinical and practice management solutions is an important first step in connecting healthcare communities, reducing costs and improving patient care," said Vern Davenport, executive vice president and general manager of Misys Healthcare Systems. "Provena and Alliance Health caregivers are demonstrating a real commitment to improving healthcare in their region."
Representatives from Provena Health said that Alliance Health physicians also intend to use Misys Payerpath software for billing and claims transactions. They suggested that an integrated system would allow physicians to more accurately document care delivery and results, preparing them for pay-for-performance initiatives.
"Having more than 20 years experience using Misys clinical tools, I am confident that Misys EMR will provide the platform that our physicians need to improve clinical and practice workflows," said Lon H. McPherson, MD, chief medical officer, Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. "Several of our affiliated physicians already use Misys within their own practices."
Provena Health is a Catholic health system that includes six hospitals, 16 long-term care and senior residential facilities, 28 clinics, five home health agencies and other health-related activities operating in Illinois and Indiana.
