CLEVELAND – Hyland Software is bolstering its healthcare portfolio with the acquisition of Valco Data Systems, whose specialty is providing data integration services for healthcare providers using MEDITECH software.

Hyland, based in Cleveland, markets the OnBase suite of document management and imaging solutions, which is being used by more than 750 healthcare providers. The technology allows providers to manage documents electronically across a broad range of departments, including health information management, revenue cycle management and accounting.

Valco, a 14-year-old company based in Salem, N.H., provides document management, imaging, workflow and health information management integration solutions for more than 300 hospitals, regional health information organizations and integrated delivery networks. The company recently launched an electronic health record integration platform, called Clinical Portals.

Officials say the acquisition allows Hyland to broaden its offerings and customer base.

“Healthcare is the single largest segment of our business, and also one of the fastest growing,” said A.J. Hyland, president and CEO of Hyland Software, in a press release. “Our acquisition of Valco strengthens our portfolio of solutions for healthcare providers, especially those that rely on systems from MEDITECH.”

“Helping to complete the electronic patient record is central to our healthcare strategy,” he added. “Even for healthcare providers that have adopted electronic medical record (EMR) systems, as much as 25 percent of a patient’s record still exists outside the EMR in the form of paper documents and digital files. Content management technology like ours is a missing piece needed to more fully inform providers and patients, optimize care, control costs and ultimately make the comprehensive electronic health record a reality.”
