Hyland Software acquires the CSC Group

CLEVELAND – Hyland Software announced Friday that it had purchased privately-held Computer Systems Company, Inc. (the CSC Group), a Strongsville, Ohio-based provider of business and clinical healthcare software and document conversion services.

Execs say the acquisition will help Hyland as it strives to become the leading enterprise content management (ECM) software vendor to the healthcare market. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Our goal is to have the dominant ECM solution across the entire healthcare network," said A.J. Hyland, president and CEO of Hyland Software. "Currently, clinical applications are in the national spotlight. But, we have recognized that ECM is just as important in other parts of the organization, such as patient accounting. The aim is to achieve both the best patient care and most efficient operations possible. Buying The CSC Group strengthens and extends our presence in more parts of the healthcare system, particularly on the financial side."

Founded in 1964, The CSC Group’s offerings include revenue cycle management solutions, a fully integrated ultrasound reporting and imaging product, and data and document conversion services. The company’s products and services help customers to eliminate business process bottlenecks, increase productivity and lower operational costs. Like Hyland Software, The CSC Group is headquartered near Cleveland.

"It is widely accepted now that paper documents are inefficient and ineffective," said Hyland. "The national push for fully electronic health records is calling more attention to this fact. But healthcare organizations are starting to learn that electronic medical record (EMR) systems – and other line of business systems in departments like registration and patient financial services – are not the panacea. Up to a quarter of all paper documents and digital files still exist outside of these applications.

"We are working hard to develop and, in this case, acquire product expertise that takes this 'rogue' content and makes it easily accessible from healthcare organizations’ clinical, financial and administrative applications," he continued. "The result for providers is more time spent working with patients and less time chasing paper and files. Like us, The CSC Group team has successfully been battling paper and process problems for decades. Joining forces is going to benefit our customers for years to come."
