HIMSS launches Healthcare Transformation Project

The collaborative efforts of healthcare's senior executives are contributing to the effective transition from paper to digital patient records. Building on this synergy, HIMSS has introduced the Healthcare Transformation Project to develop a committed community of healthcare provider senior leaders dedicated to positively transforming the quality, safety, cost-effectiveness and access to care at the local level. This interactive and innovative forum, with peer-to-peer discussion and debate, will be held from Nov. 14-16, at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

“Thanks to our research with C-suite leaders, we know they look for programs with actionable knowledgeable and tangible deliverables they can apply to their own healthcare settings,” said H. Stephen Lieber, HIMSS president and CEO. “Healthcare Transformation Project provides those benefits by bringing together like-minded executives to learn more about best practices, develop collaborations to enhance their organizations and communities, and most importantly, commit to action.”

Healthcare Transformation Project offers year-round engagement with networking, community, events and research. In addition to the annual forum in November, members of the community will meet through virtual events and at HIMSS13 in New Orleans from March 3-7, 2013. Research released to the community through June 2013 will look at “IT’s Impact on Organizational Culture,” with a report scheduled for release at the November gathering.

In November, participants will hear from and work with Ken Jennings, of ThirdRiver Partners, during a Meaningful Discussions Workshop with peer conversation and action plan development. Jennings is a healthcare strategist and futurist, and the author of two books, The Greater Goal and Changing Health Care.

“We know senior executives love learning from each other and rarely have a chance to sit with their colleagues – a chance to learn from peers," said Lieber. "At this first gathering of Healthcare Transformation Project, these C-suite leaders will have a unique chance to hear from others who are struggling with the same strategic questions.  Then, they will be able to see how their peers address the situation, while at the same, try out their own ideas in a safe and energetic environment.”

At the forum, each member of this senior executive community can create a Commitment to Action by developing a plan of specific and measureable steps addressing an important challenge facing that individual’s health organization, stakeholder group or community. Supported by information technology, each action is driven by a guiding principle of transforming healthcare on a micro level, and it must be new, specific and measurable. Jennings explained that participants will leave at the close of forum with a concrete plan anchored with the challenges identified at HTP and actionable when they get home.
