DETROIT – Henry Ford Health System, a six-hospital health system with annual revenues above $3 billion, has inked a management services deal that will provide for the digitization of records from all providers who refer patients to the system.

eHealth Global Technologies of Rochester, NY, will provide its eHealthConnect service to clinical departments within Henry Ford Health. eHealth Global manages patient data for tertiary medical departments, community hospitals and private healthcare institutions.

"The eHealthConnect service brings patient information to the point-of-care where it is needed most," said Ken Rosenfeld, president of eHealth Global. "The result is more timely, efficient care that can reduce the facility's cost to obtain medical records and potentially save the patient from duplicate or unnecessary procedures."

Through the eHealthConnect service, eHealth Global will collect and digitize medical records and images upon request from providers who are referring patients to Henry Ford Health System. The Health System is affiliated with 1,800 private practice physicians throughout southeast Michigan.

The referring physicians' medical records will then be transferred directly into Henry Ford's CarePlus electronic medical record system, while images will be transferred directly to the department's PACS or Image Viewing system of choice. All data will be transmitted via a secure and private network connection.

"Patients referred to transplantation, oncology and other specialties frequently require external referring physician medical records," said Marianne Beach, transplant administrator at Henry Ford Hospital. "To assure continuum of care, these records are an important part of the internal electronic medical record when diagnosing a patient. We no longer have to reschedule a patient if the records are not obtained or require the patient to obtain on their own."

Henry Ford Health System is a six-hospital health system anchored by the 903-bed tertiary care Henry Ford Hospital. It has more than 17,000 full-time employees and admits more than 70,000 patients to its hospitals each year.
