HealthMEDX uses iRise software to 'visualize' new healthcare products

May 05, 2009 | Eric Wicklund, Contributing Editor

EL SEGUNDO, CA – A deal forged between two healthcare IT providers aims to improve the delivery of software services to the home health, long-term care and rehabilitation markets.

HealthMEDX, an Ozark, Mo.-based software provider, has signed on to use visualization software from iRise to help develop customer relationship management, census, clinical electronic health record and financial information products for its core customer base of more than 3,300 extended care facilities.

“iRise is a critical part of our strategy to improve product quality and  gain competitive advantage in an industry that is undergoing incredible transformation,” said Jim Atteberry, CEO of HealthMEDX, in a press release. “The single biggest issue with delivering software is communications. The greatest leverage that iRise enables is improving communications at the front-end of the process, which will help us eliminate rework and speed delivery.”

Based in El Segundo, Calif., iRise designs software that allows companies to “test drive” new products early on in the development process, allowing them to consolidate applications, modify processes and accelerate delivery. Company officials say customers can save as much as 30 percent of a project’s cost by using iRise collaboration software.

“Visualization is now a standard for companies that want to deliver higher quality software while also optimizing time to market,” said Mitch Bishop, the CMO of iRise. “Like many companies, HealthMEDX recognized the status quo is no longer acceptable in today's business climate. Visualization is now an
enabler for driving innovation to market faster, while at the same time lowering cost of delivery.”

According to officials, HealthMEDX is also using iRise software to test new products with clinicians and administrators at selected customer sites.

“We saw an immediate positive change with iRise,” Atteberry said. “We have to get the user interface right the first time and we had to get there quicker.  iRise empowers us with speed and agility that ultimately means we can focus on delivering innovation faster to our customers.”

Liz says: Worried about implications of this "visualization" software....
May 05, 2009 | 3:30PM GMT

I'm worried about what this means to healthcare organizations looking for IT software. Does that mean that HealthMedX could be providing us with a "demo" of software that doesn't even exist?!

Trying to sell "vaporware" or "smoke & mirrors software" has been difficult for companies to attempt because an educated buyer can always ask to see the software in action, but if this iRise software can create the ILLUSION of real software, what is to keep HealthMedX from using that in their sales pitches to us?

I'm VERY concerned about this... it puts an additional burden on us to figure out if the vendor is telling the truth or not. Scary.
