NEW GLOUCESTER, ME – Healthcare IT News, the leading news source for healthcare information technology, has restructured its award-winning editorial team to better cover the rapidly changing industry. The newspaper has added two new editors, brought in a veteran Washington, D.C. reporter, and named former managing editor Bernie Monegain as its new editor.
“I’m pleased to announce that Bernie Monegain will lead Healthcare IT News as it broadens its editorial mission,” said Jack Beaudoin, editorial director and vice president of MedTech Publishing. “Bernie has been with the newspaper since its first issue, and has played an important role in making it the best in the business.”
Healthcare IT News won the American Business Media’s Jesse H. Neal Award for best issue of a newspaper in February.
Monegain joined the staff in late 2003 as online/news editor, helping to launch Healthcare IT NewsWeek, the paper’s weekly e-newsletter, and Healthcare IT NewsDay, the daily online news service found at www.healthcareitnews.com. In 2005, she was named managing editor and has served as acting editor for most of 2006. Prior to joining MedTech Publishing, Monegain had edited CC News and, as a daily reporter and city editor, reported on healthcare, business and technology, among other issues. Her reporting on “The Economics of Healthcare” won her a Knight fellowship.
In addition to her editing responsibilities, Monegain will cover the “Hospitals and IDNs” section of the newspaper.
Other changes on the staff include the addition of Eric Wicklund, who will replace Monegain as managing editor, and Richard Pizzi, who takes the reigns as associate editor. In addition, Diana Manos replaces Caroline Broder as senior editor and head of Healthcare IT News’ Washington, D.C. bureau.
Wicklund is a 20-year veteran of Maine daily newspapers, where he has served as business editor, wire editor and features editor, among other steps in an award-winning career. He will cover vendor news in Healthcare IT News and oversee several departments and features.
Pizzi was most recently a senior reporter at Clinical Laboratory News. Prior to that, he contributed articles to Modern Drug Discovery, Today’s Chemist, Family Practice News, Thoracic Surgery News and Diabetes Health. Pizzi will cover developments in “Physician Practices and Ambulatory Care” for the newspaper, as well as edit the “New Products” section.
Manos has almost two decades of experience as a journalist, with half of it spent covering federal healthcare legislation in Washington. In her years as a reporter on Capitol Hill, she has contributed to such publications as The Washington Post, AHA News, Hospitals and Health Networks magazine, Part B News, and others. Her beats include industry news, policy making and other Washington, D.C.-related issues.
Healthcare IT News’ expanded coverage will continue to rely on contributions of its veteran staff. Although Senior Editor Fred Bazzoli takes on editorship of MedTech Publishing’s latest newspaper, Healthcare Finance News, look for his stories on the business of healthcare IT in these pages. Contributing Editor Patty Enrado will continue to cover the “Payers” section of the newspaper, while Contributing Editor John Andrews reports for the Management Solutions and Clinical Toolkit sections. Editorial Director Jack Beaudoin will provide industry news and international coverage, as well as occasional commentary on the latest policymaking.
