ORLANDO, FL – The National ePrescribing Patient Safety Initiative and two of Tampa Bay's largest healthcare organizations announced their partnership to bring free electronic prescribing to area physicians at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's 2008 Conference & Exhibition.
Leading the deployment of free Web-based e-prescribing to all Tampa Bay area physicians are BayCare Health System and USF Health, who together represent the first Florida regional sponsors of the National ePrescribing Patient Safety Initiative (NEPSI). NEPSI is a coalition of technology and healthcare companies led by Allscripts and Dell that provide thousands of physicians in every state simple, safe and secure electronic prescribing at no cost.
Both Florida health organizations are proven leaders in quality and safety improvement, and have partnered successfully on several prior initiatives.
BayCare Health System is the largest full-service, community-based healthcare system in the Tampa Bay area, comprised of the nine leading not-for-profit hospitals and 11 community-based outpatient centers.
"BayCare Health System is pleased to play a role in reducing preventable medication errors through participation in the NEPSI initiative," said Bruce Flareau, MD, chief informatics officer of BayCare Health System.
