WASHINGTON – The Health Resources and Services Administration has made available for free a mobile version of its "Find a Health Center" application for iPhones through iTunes. The online version of the health center locator can be accessed at HRSA's website.
Each day, an average of 3,200 people use the app to find healthcare services at HRSA supported community health centers, HRSA Administrator Mary Wakefield said in an announcement Oct. 29.
Upon entering a ZIP code, users can view a map to the nearest local community health center. Community health centers provide preventive and primary care to 19 million patients, about 40 percent have no health insurance, according to Wakefield.
Meanwhile, the Defense Department has released a smart phone application to help service members and veterans monitor their emotional health as they cope with psychological experiences from combat deployments.
The National Center for Telehealth and Technology, located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., developed the "T2 Mood Tracker" to help chart the emotional and behavioral trends of service members as they move through daily experiences and changes in their environment, including therapy, medication, at work and home.
Therapists and physicians often have to rely on patient recall when trying to gather information about symptoms over previous weeks and months. But, "the best record of an experience is when it's recorded at the time and place it happens," said Perry Bosmajian, a psychologist with the center.
The application is available now online for smart phones using the Android operating systems It will be available for iPhone users early next year.
