Mobile dictation available on the BlackBerry
ST. PAUL, MN - 3M Health Information Systems has introduced a new mobile application for the BlackBerry and other Windows mobile smartphones designed to facilitate physician diction. 3M Mobile Dictation Software is an application that offers physicians the ability to use their mobile phones as a means to make dictations during patient visits. 3M officials said the solution adheres to the full range of HIPAA security measures and hospital-specific guidelines for encryption and authentication. The technology allows physicians to view patient lists, search patient IDs, and display the most current patient information on the smartphone screen.

Cardinal Health tracks supplies with Connect System
DUBLIN, OH - Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health, has developed a new inventory system called Connect System that is designed to utilized custom bar codes and scanners to reduce lab time spent on supply orders. Cardinal Health officials said the system helps labs create a consistent ordering process for all products while maintaining access to other products at appropriate times. The system is expected to help labs better control supply expenses by reducing unnecessary inventory. Other features of the system allow for the creating of a standardized ordering process for supplies, improving patient safety and efficiency by flagging expired products, and supporting multiple workflows.

Patients, docs, connect with online platform
NEW YORK - Brooklyn-based start-up DocMatcher.com has launched a personalized healthcare Web platform designed to help people find a doctor to match their specific health needs. Officials said after the patient and doctor are personally matched using an algorithm, patients can book an appointment on-line, store and share their medical information, read expert articles and communicate over DocMatcher.com’s secure Web interface. DocMatcher.com’s office management features are also expected to benefit physician and other clinical staff by allowing them to build, grow and efficiently manage their practices.

Compact workstation to promote IT integration
VERSAILLES, OH - Midmark Corporation has developed a new model workstation to help physician offices integrate HIT, such as electronic medical records, digital diagnostics and e-prescribing, in exam and procedure rooms. The Care Exchange Workstation is expected to help facilitate better workflow and enhance productivity while strengthening the physician/patient relationship. The new workstations are designed to enable physician access to patient information at the point of care without interrupting the visit. Midmark officials said the workstations offer maneuverability, hand lever height-adjustment and an 18-inch footprint for an easy fit in small spaces.

MRO Corp. assists audit tracking with new software
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA - MRO Corp., has developed a new software called the Audit Tracker Online. MRO officials said Audit Tracker Online expands on functionalities of traditional RAC software to allow healthcare providers to manage incoming medical record requests for all types of payer audits. The new software from MRO is designed to manage the tracking and reporting processes of other payer audits, including private payers, quality improvement organizations and other Medicare-and Medicaid-based audits. The software is designed to be customizable and manages patient information, workflow, correspondence, audit determinations, various stages of appeals processes, including secondary reared shipments and supporting appeals documentation, deadlines and documents in one location.

New workflow launched by QuadraMed
RESTON, VA - QuadraMed Corporation, a provider of healthcare information technologies and services, has launched Quantim Workflow, the newest addition to its suite of Quantim Health Information Management (HIM) solutions. Quantim Workflow was developed as a scalable solution that enables single and multi-facility hospitals to automate the distribution and allocation of coding, compliance and other HIM work assignments. Quantim Workflow is designed to automatically distribute assignments and documents to client-defined worklists in order to help healthcare organizations  distribute work, and leverage coding skills through selective assignment of work items. The workflow solution is also designed to provide healthcare organizations with productivity and aging reports, as well as comprehensive audit trails, for expanded coder accountability related to workload quantity and quality.
