BRUSSELS – The European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR) has updated the "Greening at COCIR" section of its website to promote the importance of the environment in health IT.
The purpose of Greening at COCIR is to update the European health IT industry on COCIR’s activities, documentation and evaluation of potentially negative effects of current environmental legislative proposals.
For the past five years, COCIR has promoted environmentally conscious design, enabling its members to develop health IT solutions that further environmental objectives while providing healthcare benefits to European citizens.
An example of this is Ecodesign, launched in 2008, a voluntary initiative in which COCIR members establish measurable targets for improving the environmental performance of their medical imaging equipment, beginning with product design.
"By expanding our efforts in environmental matters through the Greening at COCIR section on our website, COCIR wants to contribute to a greener economy and to the resource-efficiency policies which are now top priorities for both the European institutions and the healthcare industry," said Nicole Denjoy, COCIR Secretary General.
The redesign of Greening at COCIR is intended to help health IT stakeholders better understand the environmental policymaking process that impacts the development of new technology. It is also meant to support environmentally sustainable corporate strategies.
