WASHINGTON – The eHealth Initiative (eHI), whose mission is to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare through IT, has announced the industry leaders nominated for the 2011 Board of Directors. The board will be led by the new Chair William F. Jessee, MD, president and CEO of the Medical Group Management Association, and Vice Chair Micky Tripathi, president and CEO of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative.

The new board members will be approved at eHI's Annual Meeting and Conference, taking place in Washington on Jan. 19-20.

"We are proud to have so many of the nation's experts and healthcare leaders join our board," said Jennifer Covich Bordenick, CEO of the eHealth Initiative. "With the direction and guidance provided by this diverse group, the eHealth Initiative can continue to drive progress in the quality and health technology arenas."

Jessee and Tripathi will be joined on the board's leadership by Secretary Cindy Ehnes, director of the California Department of Managed Care, and Treasurer Denny Van Liew, senior director of Pfizer's Strategic Management Group. Robert Marotta, Esq., senior vice president and chief regulatory counsel for WebMD, will serve as chairman emeritus.

"It is an honor to head such a prestigious organization," said Jessee, who has served as an eHI board member for three years. "eHI's accomplishments over the last several years have been phenomenal. But 2011 is shaping up to be a critical year for health information technology. No organization is better able to unite the relevant stakeholders than eHI, and we are well-positioned to play an integral role in shaping the field for years to come."
