PLANO, TX – Dell Services has launched a Mobile Clinical Computing (MCC) solution for hospitals and healthcare organizations that use the MEDITECH Health Care Information System, enabling a simplification and automation of IT operations.

Mobile Clinical Computing (MCC) for MEDITECH solution incorporates VMware View™ and identity and access management solutions from Forward Advantage and Imprivata.

Mobile Clinical Computing (MCC) for MEDITECH is based on a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) that is designed for fast, flexible deployment of virtual desktops in hospitals and their extended communities. The design includes VMware vSphere™ and VMware View™ as well as servers, optimized storage, networking, and security in a reference architecture that can be tailored to meet customer needs.

Dell works collaboratively with customers to develop a custom design and deployment plan that works best for them. Customers have the option of integrating the model into their existing data center technology or operating in the Dell Services cloud technology model. Key elements of the solution include VMware View's management of roaming sessions along with convenient access through Imprivata's OneSign application and Forward Advantage's API integration with the MEDITECH HCIS for utilizing advanced authentication devices for e-signature actions.

An additional benefit of the MCC for MEDITECH solution, say Dell executives, is that the virtual desktop is designed to eliminate the need for local storage, helping to dramatically reduce the risk of a security breach and the resulting consequences for the organization. This feature can be important given the recent strengthening of HIPAA rules by the HITECH Act.

“Secure virtual desktops are particularly advantageous in healthcare, where users are heavily-reliant on roaming sessions, fast workflows, and shared workstations,” says Barry Chaiken, MD, CMO, Imprivata. “With MCC for MEDITECH we are changing the way doctors and nurses access data by providing “one touch” secure roaming for fast access to patient information at their fingertips – from any workstation or thin client.”
