SAN DIEGO – David Grant USAF Medical Center at California's Travis Air Force Base has gone live with a clinical documentation solution.
The medical center has deployed San Diego-based CliniComp's Essentris clinical documentation system.
"The implementation was extremely smooth," said Maj. William Fecke, the medical center's chief of medical information systems."The go-live is a critical milestone for us, as we strive to leverage information technology to further enhance care delivery, patient safety and outcomes by enabling clinicians at DGMC to make faster and more informed decisions while sharing data with other MTFs in the DoD and VA health systems."
According to CliniComp, the system consists of Essentris CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry), GDR (Global Data Repository) and OnWatch (clinical surveillance) and is deployed in the hospital's medical/surgical, intensive care and medical health units. The hospital, which is currently staffed to operate 84 inpatient beds that can be expanded to 176, will next implement Essentris in the emergency department, perinatal, same-day surgery and post-anesthesia care units.
"The six-week installation is a significant achievement for CliniComp, as it underscores the efficiency of our implementation methodology, scalability of Essentris and our ability to roll out the system to hundreds of cliniciansat the same time across several facilities," said Alan Portela, CliniComp's president. "We are very pleased to partner with the DoD to improve quality and safety not only at a facility-wide level but also across the military continuum of care."
CliniComp's deployment of the Essentris EMR at DGMC was part of a contract awarded by the Department of Defense to provide clinical documentation solutions to 36 military treatment facilities over the next 24 months. Along with DGMC, General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Naval Hospital Bremerton in Washington have gone live with the Essentris system.
