AURORA, CO – The University of Colorado Hospital has implemented several new IT solutions to help clinical and administrative staff deal with business and workflow problems.

The Aurora-based hospital is the Rocky Mountain region's only academic medical center, said hospital officials. The decision to implement new solutions came with the need to streamline workflow processes and allow the hospital to move to a single enterprise system.

The hospital will be rolling out Lawson Software’s Global Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Absence Management and Employee & Manager Self-Service applications, as well as Lawson Business Intelligence and ProcessFlow Integrator.

Lawson, based in St. Paul, Minn., has worked with the hospital in the past.

"We have seen meaningful value in the... applications we have been using to date, and we view the additional application suites as strategic tools to help us improve some key areas of our business operations," said Darryl Varnado, the hospital's vice president of human resources."A key challenge for all healthcare organizations is attracting and retaining the best employees," he noted. The new applications can help the hospital become more strategic about our HR functions, Varnado added.

Hospital officials said they wanted to move facility processes and data to a single enterprise system to help manage a wider range of business challenges, including financial management and procurement activities as well as core human resources functions.

Officials said the hospital will look to leverage the new applications to help improve recruiting and retention activities, which are particularly daunting business challenges for healthcare organizations today.

"We have established a very strong relationship with the University of Colorado Hospital, and we build on that relationship in ways that will help the hospital better serve its patients and live the promise of its academic mission," said Jim Catalino, Lawson’s general manager of healthcare. "A healthcare organization's most valuable asset is its workforce. Our applications can help a hospital like the University of Colorado align its workforce to meet the needs of the business, patients and others affected by the work they do."
